Walt Disney World Speedway hosted its first car race， a Formula Ford 2000 support race， followed the next day with the Indy Racing League’s Indy 200 car race。 The track was a three-turn tri-oval， designed by Indianapolis Motor Speedway chief engineer Kevin Forbes， and the location was chosen in September 1994 by Greg Ruse of Buena Vista Construction。 The track was situated on a triangular plot of land adjacent to the Magic Kingdom’s parking lot near Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort。 Plans for the track were first announced on January 23， 1995， which was designed to fit within the boundaries of the existing infrastructure and required minimal rerouting of existing roads。

Three famous number plates from the Mini Coopers used in film The Italian Job were sold for 19，800 at auction。 The number plates on the three Minis all have a reference to parts in this movie。 The red Mini has the number “HMP 729G”， this is “Her Majesty’s Prison” and Michael Caine’s prison number。 The white Mini is “GPF 146G”， this is Grand Prix flag。 The blue Mini is “LGW 809G” and refers to the flight number that the gang would have taken had they been successful。 “LGW” refers to London Gatwick。 The three plates were removed from the cars shortly after filming and were bought as one lot by a private telephone buyer during the sale at Cheffins auction in Cambridge。

British-born female Champ Car driver Katherine Legge made history by completing the one millionth lap of the Rolex Daytona 24 Hour Race， since its inception。 Legge， driving the #84 Robinson Racing Pontiac-powered Riley DP car， passed the finish line with less than 2 and a half hours left in the race， completing the 30，419th lap of the 2007 running of the race。 Legge was lying in the 31st position at the time。

Franois Isaac de Rivaz， inventor and politician was issued with a French patent for his hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine with electric ignition， which is an important ancestor of the modern internal combustion engine。 In 1808 he fitted it into a primitive working vehicle – “the world’s first internal combustion powered automobile”。

The Daytona 24 Hours finished with the team of Pedro Rodriguez/Jackie Oliver winning in a Porsche 917K。 The Roger Penske entered Ferrari 512M of Mark Donohue/David Hobbs won the pole and led the early stages before electrical trouble and an accident slowed them。 At 18 hours， Rodriguez/Oliver held a 43 lap lead when the gearbox seized。 It was repaired in 92 minutes， but the Tony Adamowicz/Ronnie Bucknum Ferrari 512 had taken the lead in that time。 Rodriguez soon ran them down and regained the lead。 The winners completed 688 laps （2，622。5 miles）， averaging 109。2 mph with Adamowicz/Bucknum finishing 2nd， one lap behind， and Donohue/Hobbs winding up third。
